About this indicator

This divides the value of goods and services produced within a district by its population, giving a rough gauge of local economic output per resident rather than actual take-home income or living standards. It is measured at current prices, so part of any increase reflects inflation rather than real growth. District figures are also sensitive to where output is booked, so industrial or port districts can look far richer than the incomes their residents actually earn.

Methodology & notes

Per-capita income = Net District Domestic Product / population, current prices, parsed from the official TN DES District Level GDDP Data Handbook 2022-23 (Net table; the same basis as the Economic Survey of Tamil Nadu headline). Single period: TN was reorganised 32 -> 38 districts (~2019-21), which breaks earlier district series, so a multi-year district series is deferred.
